Bootlegger Straight Bourbon

This bourbon makes no pretenses of being a great Bourbon. While it is not an overly complex whiskey, it just a simply good Bourbon. The whiskey is aged at least five years, and it is made from a mash of about 75% corn, with smaller amounts of malted barley and rye. This easier-drinking style of Bourbon will appeal to most bourbon drinkers. And, of course, the price is right.

The bourbon is fermented in small batches and then distilled in small batches in pot stills. The resulting spirit is then filled into newly charred white oak barrels. The distillery uses smaller 5 to 30 gallon barrels, rather than traditional larger 53 gallon barrels. The whiskey is not chill filtered, rather it is strained through cotton mesh to capture any larger particles of charcoal from the barrel.

The aroma starts with french toast, some cinnamon and baking spices, and finishes with a hint of citrus and corn bread. The bourbon has flavors of dark chocolate, vanilla, hints of coffee and caramel, and a healthy dose of cinnamon and baking spices. The smaller barrels account for the fairly pronounced notes of oak, cedar and vanilla on the soft finish. All in all, a really nice whiskey at a fair price and from New York to boot.

Certified Kosher by the Orthodox Union.

Beaverkill Bourbon Cream

And for something a bit different we have this delicious whiskey cream from the same distillery. This bourbon cream is made from Bootlegger Bourbon, cream from regional family owned farms and Grade “A” maple syrup from a family owned farm in the Hudson Valley.

This thick cream has a lighter flavor and it is not as sweet as most of the Irish creams. It has a delicate cream flavor, with hints of caramel, flan and the maple syrup. The maple repeats on the long finish.

Use it on its own on the rocks, in coffee, or in any variety of cocktails.

Pop's Bottle Price $32.99
