Boccatone is a joyful expression of Montefalco and a wonderful counterpart to the single vineyard Sagrantinos of Tabarrini. Not to be considered a younger brother of Sagrantino but rather another great Montefalco wine the wine is made from a majority of Sangiovese and finished with Barbera and Sagrantino, a native grape of the Montefalco area. This blend expresses the serious and age worthy side of the estate with an accessibly joyful palate.
A blend of 60% Sangiovese, 25% Barbera, and 15% Sagrantino, a native variety of Montefalco.
The 2018 Montefalco Rosso Boccatone seduces with a spicy bouquet evoking fresh rose, mint and spiced black cherries. This impresses further with its vibrant personality and crisp wild berry fruits, creating a bitter-sweet appeal as juicy acidity and exotic spices cascade throughout. It finishes structured and firm yet also mouth-watering with a mineral twang that keeps me coming back for more. Boccatone is always a treat, with its zesty blend of 60% Sangiovese, 25% Barbera and 15% Sagrantino. That said, the 2018 takes things to a whole new level.
Macerated raspberries, dried roses, wild thyme and dried hay aromas all converge in the glass of this red wine. The bold palate rushes forward with juicy red cherries then dives right into a bowl of warm sweet and savory spices finishing with fine tannins and zippy acidity. Jeff Porter, 4/1/2024.
