This Reserva Rioja is a blend of Tempranillo grapes from vineyards between 10 and 90 years old, along with smaller amounts of Garnacha, Graciano and even the white grapes, Viura and Malvasia. Remelluri uses a mix of American and French oak barrels in various sizes ranging from small 225 liter barrique for the Tempranillo and large 600 liter demi-muids casks for the Garnacha.

Remelluri Description

85% Tempranillo, 10% Garnacha and 5% Graciano.

Remelluri Reserva is the original wine from Granja Nuestra Señora de Remelluri, sourced from the most important vineyards consisting of 148 plots in 25 sites of the property. Only indigenous varieties are used, planted from 1918 until today, averaging 40 years old. The blend consists primarily of goblet-trained tempranillo, garnacha, and graciano varieties with an average yield of 27hl/ha. Only grapes from the estate are used for Remelluri Reserva.

Certified organic farming, made with low intervention, unfiltered, and with minimal sulfur at bottling.

James Suckling: 93 Points

Aromas of dried flowers, ripe berries and tobacco continue to the palate that is medium-to full-bodied with firm, silky tannins and a flavorful finish. Classic style. Better with a little more bottle age, but already very pretty. 9/2020.

Wine Advocate: 93 Points

The estate red 2014 Reserva was produced with the grapes from a challenging year with abundant rain and high temperatures in September. They started picking the 11th of October and had to rush and do a severe selection of grapes. It fermented in small vats and oak casks and matured in barriques for 20 to 21 months. They consider 2014 the breakthrough vintage for Remelluri since Telmo Rodriguez came back in 2010, as it takes time until things are sorted. 2014 was a challenging vintage, but when they compare it with 2013, they still favor 2014.  Lisa Perrotti-Brown, 10/2020.
