Founded in 1890 Finca La Celia is the oldest winery in the Uco Valley, Mendoza, Argentina.
It was also the first winery in the region to plant the Malbec variety, which is currently the country’s signature variety around the world.
The 2020 Malbec Pioneer was 60% aged in used barrels. Purplish-red in hue. The nose presents notes of jammy red fruit, redcurrant and hints of herbs. Intense in the mouth with a juicy flow and grippy tannins, it delivers contained power and flavor balanced out by the freshness. Drinking Window: 2022 - 2030. Joaquín Hidalgo, 9/2022.
#57 TOP 100 BEST BUY 2022
Red berry, spice and a light note of licorice show in the glass of this medium-bodied wine. Vanilla blends nicely with bright red-fruit flavors and herbaceous notes on the palate. It finishes with rosemary flavors. Jesica Vargas, 11/1/2022.
Gooseberry leaves and cassis on the nose with some plums and baking spices. A medium-bodied cabernet franc with chewy tannins and some herbal tones in the finish. Fluent and drinkable, but not quite intense.
