The 11 best Falanghina del Sannio wines chosen by Gambero Rosso

Nov 10 2024, 13:28

There are 21 Tre Bicchieri awards for Campania wines in the Vini d'Italia 2025 guide by Gambero Rosso, and 16 of them are white wines. Fiano di Avellino and Falanghina del Sannio take the lead (alongside Greco di Tufo). Here, we focus on the Falanghina del Sannio wines that impressed us most.

Fontanavecchia’s BjondoRe '23 features classic notes of hay and green citrus with a delicate hint of white peach. It is lively and dynamic on the palate.

Established by Orazio in the early 1990s, Fontanavecchia is now run by his sons Libero and Giuseppe, who have devoted themselves to showcasing Sannio’s wines, especially Falanghina,...

Falstaff

90 points, Tasting from 16.10.2024: Othmar Kiem, Simon Staffler

The White Wine BjondoRe Falanghina del Sannio DOP, vintage 2023 from the winery Fontanavecchia has been rated in 2024 by Othmar Kiem, Simon Staffler with 90 Falstaff points. It is a wine made from the grape variety Falanghina from the region Campania in Italy.

Pale straw yellow with a silver sheen. Inviting nose of white peach and subtle candied citrus fruit, slightly floral aftertaste with a hint of mint. Clear and juicy on the palate, flows precisely over the tongue, harmonious and balanced. A soloist but also a good accompaniment to food!

Fontan Avecchia Description

100% Falanghina

Fontanavecchia is located in Southern Italy just outside of the small town of Benevento and was founded by the Rillo family in the early 19th century. They remain a family owned winery today and it has since been restored and expanded to over 18 hectares. The volcanic soils that make up this region are known for creating powerful reds, but whites like this one are gaining international attention for being full-bodied yet having an incredibly balanced acidity. This wine is made from 100% Falanghina, an indigenous grape to the region. With tasting notes of citrus, dried herbs and touch of spice you can pair this wine with a Margherita pizza or baked shrimp with plenty of garlic and oregano!
