One of the region’s oldest estates, situated along the prestigious Route des Châteaux du Médoc – a very popular tourist spot. The château, occupied by Christiane Castel since 1971, reflects the family’s passion and respect for tradition. Vineyards are managed in the tradition of the Médoc Crus Classés: 2 complementary terroirs, each as great as the other, featuring pebbles and chalky clay. In the image of the First Growths, the vineyard is planted at a density of 9,600 vines per hectare.
Château d’Arcins boasts a historic set of vineyards, dating back to the beginning of the14th century. The first vines were planted by the Knights Templar, who were stationed in the village around the year 1300. The property owes its name to a knight by the name of “Ars”, who inhabited the property around the year 1300.
Stone and dark-berry character. Walnuts, too. Full body, velvety tannins and a blackberry and crushed-stone aftertaste. Better than the 2015. 3/2017.
The 2016 d’Arcins has quite a high-toned but nicely detailed bouquet with iodine-tinged black fruit, touches of mint and pot pourri. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine line of acidity, smooth in texture with a very cohesive, almost Pauillac-like finish. Excellent. Tasted at the Cru Bourgeois tasting in London. Neal Martin, October 2018.
