Practicing Organic since 2010, everything at Ampélia is done by hand, from the vineyard where the grapes are sorted after being tasted and laboratory analyzed to ensure maximum ripeness, and at the winery where they are further sorted before being de-stemmed and vinified in separate lots. A first assemblage is performed, and then each lot is aged separately in barrel (1/3 new, 1/3 second use, 1/3 third use) for between 12 and 18 months prior to the final assemblage. The wines are bottled 21 months after harvest.
A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc.

This estate is under the same ownership as classed growth Château Grand-Corbin-Despagne in Saint-Emilion. A dense, richly wood aged wine, this also offers concentrated black fruits. Cabernet Franc in the blend gives the wine a perfumed, stylish character. Drink from 2023. Roger Voss, 3/1/2021.
The 2018 Ampelia is racy, juicy and quite expressive. Sweet red raspberry fruit, wild flowers, mint and sweet spices all flesh out in this mid-weight yet deep, expressive wine. There is no shortage of richness, even if some slightly angular contours remain. The blend is 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. Tasted three times
