The pure violet, black cherry, blackberry, earth and iron aromas and flavors butt up against the chalky tannins on the back end. Vibrant acidity ties all the elements together. Shows excellent balance and length. Best from 2022 through 2040. 550 cases made, 200 cases imported.
The 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva is powerful and deep in the glass. Black cherry, plum, mocha, new oak, spice and leather are all amped up. Dark, layered and supple, the 2016 has plenty to recommend it. The Riserva deftly balances fruit intensity with the aromatic depth and freshness of 2016. The French oak could be a bit better integrated, but otherwise this is a fine showing.
Plenty of dried cranberries and red cherries, as well as touches of earth and even herbal character. Full-bodied and chewy in a good way, as the structured tannins press the vibrant red fruit into shape.
The Casaloste 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva is a rich and darkly saturated expression with a balanced load of dark fruit, tilled earth, leather and lightly toasted spice. This wine boasts a very rich, soft and succulent quality with sweet plum and blackberry on the close. The tannins are softly rounded and chewy. Pair it with a sugo di fegatini, or a Tuscan chicken liver tomato sauce, served over pasta or just on its own. Some 6,600 bottles were made.
