Casa Lapostolle Description

A blend of about 85% Sauvignon Blanc, 8% Sémillon and 7% Sauvignon Gris.

Lapostolle was founded in 1994 by Alexandra Marnier Lapostolle and husband Cyril de Bournet upon their discovery of a unique Clos in the Apalta Valley sheltering 100 year-old pre-phylloxera vines. They quickly realized its potential for producing world-class wines.

The Marnier-Lapostolle family has been recognized for fine wines and liqueurs since the early 19th century. In establishing her family’s legacy in the New World, Alexandra brought generations of French winemaking tradition and expertise to the rugged landscape of the Colchagua Valley.

Today Charles de Bournet, seventh generation, leads the winery in its newest chapter of innovation, punctuated by the official recognition of the Apalta DO in 2018. Together with Andrea León, Technical Director & Winemaker, they continue to craft wines that honor the winery credo: French in essence, Chilean by birth.

James Suckling: 93 Points

A beautiful sauvignon with sliced grapefruit, peach, pear and hints of tarragon. It’s full-bodied with lovely fruit and a flavorful finish. Creamy texture. Drink now.

Vinous: 89 Points

The 2020 Sauvignon Blanc Grand Selection is also 11% Sémillon and 4% Sauvignon Gris. Yellow in hue. The nose offers aromas of satsuma and grapefruit plus hints of yeast and grass. The voluminous palate flows generously, with plenty of alcohol (13.4%) and moderate freshness making it a little overwhelming. Joaquín Hidalgo, 5/2021.

Wine Advocate: 89 Points

The 2020 Grand Selection Sauvignon Blanc from Cachapoal contains some Semillon from Apalta and fermented in stainless steel with selected yeasts and was kept with the lees for eight months. It's subtle and different from the coastal examples, more citrusy and less herbal, balanced, dry and with moderate alcohol and integrated acidity and with a stony sensation in the finish. 70,800 bottles produced. Luis Gutiérrez MW, 8/31/2021.

I tasted a superb range of wines from Lapostolle, now under the charge of winemaker Andrea León. They produce a total 1.2 million bottles per vintage.
