Bodegas Caro is a partnership between the Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) from Bordeaux and the Catena family of Mendoza. The project started with the idea of crafting a wine with the signature varietals from each partner, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec, respectively. The Catenas would provide their knowledge of their high altitude vineyards and the Rothschild would contribute their experience in winemaking and aging. Thus the Bodegas Caro wines are an expression of Mendoza fruit with Bordeaux style. The project was an immediate success, so a they decided to create a second wine more in the Bordeaux fashion and Amancaya was born. Amancaya is the Quechua name of an endemic flower of the Andes found in the Mendoza area.
