Firm and quite deep, still slightly smoky-reductive aroma with fine stone fruit and citrus aromas, Mediterranean herbs and mineral notes. Tight, bright, very juicy fruit with present, yet fine acidity and some grip, again also a little reduction, cool herbaceous-vegetal and delicately yeasty notes on the palate, persistent, has tension, a certain depth, clear minerality, very good, gripping, again also quite juicy finish with plenty of bite. Best to drink: 2024-2035+.

95 points, Mosel Fine Wines: AP: 15 22. The 2021er Hofberg Spätlese, as it is referred to on the consumer label, was made from fruit harvested at 86° Oechsle in the backside of the main hill of the vineyard and was fermented down to fruity-styled levels of residual sugar (62 g/l). It offers a beautifully aromatic and complex nose of vineyard peach, fresh pineapple, smoke, minty herbs, fine spices (ginger), and almond. The wine proves gorgeously playful on the palate where some creamy elements give gradually way to candied citrusy fruits in the very long and intense finish. This combines freshness and lightness with more depth and complexity. What a superb Spätlese! 2031-2051." 03/2023.
Mosel Fine Wines is a good and free, and independent publication on Mosel Riesling (and beyond!).

The vineyards for this wine are located in the centre of the Hofberg with full south exposition. Grapes from over 60 year old vines from this part of the Hofberg with steep slopes and grey slate for soil are fermented in big stainless steel tanks. Of course spontaneously! Harvest at the end of October provided us with ripe and aromatic grapes (without botrytis!) for our sweet Spätlese.
Age of the vines: 60 years and older
The Grand Cru Hofberg is one of the greatest Mosel vineyards. In 1868 the vineyards of this hill were classified by the Preußen as an extraordinary place to make great Rieslings. The main part of the vineyards in our region are situated on the Mosel river. But not the Hofberg. It`s a lovely quiet side-valley on the Dhron river with weathered Devonian slate in mixture with quartzite. Riesling vines are today 30 to 60 years old and some are still ungrafted.
A perfect place to vinify remarkable wines. Even at a young age, the wines often show a striking exotic fruit, subtle spice, wild slate aromas and a finesse of acidity.
