Glencadam 25 Year Old “The Remarkable” Speyside Single Malt, Batch 2.

I just tried this whisky last week when a sales person came in with a sample. This is a whisky of rather staggering complexity and depth; the finish lasted for more than five minutes! I was not familiar with this distillery, but a few whisky reviewers in Scotland have called the Glencadam distillery grossly underrated.

This is a limited release of 1,600 bottles, of which only 500 bottles are available in the US. It is a blend of whiskys aged only in bourbon casks with no coloring added and not chill filtered. Since the whisky sees no sherry cask the whisky itself shines through clearly. So do not expect a whisky like the sherried Macallan or Glenlivet. This whisky is more in the style of Glenfiddich and Dalwhinnie, among others, that predominantly use Bourbon casks. I personally prefer this style, although I understand why the sweeter sherried whiskies are so popular.

I was reading the review below as I was tasting the whisky, and it says it all, except for the incredible finish.

Refined aromas of dried apricots, strawberries, peonies, candle wax, marzipan, graham cracker, candied ginger, and vanilla frosting carry through to the palate, which showcases sugared almonds, Raisinets, dried apricots, red berry jam, Fig Newtons, and savory tobacco. A few drops of water temper oak tannin. The finish is lengthy and complex, yet soft with orange marmalade, dark chocolate, coffee bean, dried cherries and ginger, and tobacco.
