Carpineto is a dynamic estate that makes wines across Tuscany's best appellations. The Carpineto 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva is a thickly layered red that boasts ample fruit weight and succulence. The wine proudly trots out blackberry and dried plum that is supported by savory spice, toasted oak and campfire ash. This edition clearly shows the fruit sharpness and purity of the vintage, and it paints a complete portrait of Greve in Chianti, a wine region with cool zones, strong summer sunshine and wild woods. This is a terrific Riserva from Carpineto that hits all the right marks.

The 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva is wonderfully fleshy and expressive, and yet has plenty of structural underpinnings. Dark cherry, plum, spice, menthol, licorice and mocha open up with a bit of air. The balance of fruit depth allied to a mid-weight sense of structure is just compelling. Readers will find a potent, bruising Riserva with tons of character.

Hints of earth and spice accent this wine’s rich dark-cherry flavors, while raspy tannins lend a grippy texture that would work well with poultry or pork dishes.

Aromas of leather, underbrush and game mingle with whiffs of medicinal herbs and blue flowers. The ripe palate shows fleshy plum, vanilla and the same gamy note as the nose. Dusty tannins provide light support and a drying finish.

Intense ruby red with garnet reflections. The bouquet is elegant, full, harmonious and persistent with suggestions of vanilla and raspberry. The palate is long and velvety, full-bodied, generous and warm.
