2019 Forstreiter Grüner Veltliner Ried Kremser Kogl Kremstal Grüner Veltliner is a dry white wine that grows almost exclusively in Austria. With flavors of green pepper and lime, it is an exotic alternative to Sauvignon Blanc. The grapes name translates to “Green Wine of Veltlin”. The Veltlin (Valtellina) is an area in the lower Alps on the border of Switzerland and formerly independent Lombardy, that is now part of Italy. We were introduced to this wonderful wine by our sales person and we all loved it! In the nose a fine seasoning, fresh apple fruit, and typical varieties. On the palate it continues finely, with citrus and herbs. Finely woven, distinguished and of medium weight, a wine-drinkers loving Grüner Veltliner.
93 Points Wine Enthusiast Yeast and salty miso are the chief notions on the nose. The palate adds pepper and wonderfully vivid, slight spritz to the slender but concentrated body while lemon brightness highlights the purity. 3/1/2021. Grüner is especially good with Vietnamese food particularly summer rolls and noodle salads. Fried foods, schnitzel being the obvious example but you could happily drink Grüner with fish and chips or even fried chicken. Fresh cheeses like goats cheese, young pecorino or mozzarella. You can also pair Gruner Veltliner with many seafood and vegetable-based pasta dishes or risottos though for preference I'd go for an Italian white and I don’t think Grüner works with cooked tomato sauces.
