2017 Beaujolais Nouveau Day - November 16, 2017
"
Perhaps the most well-known producer of Beaujolais Nouveau is Georges Duboeuf, who is credited as one of the geniuses behind the wine. Beaujolais Nouveau is always one of the first wines of the harvest and an indicator of things to come. It is meant to be drunk young. Most vintages should be consumed by the following May after its release. However, in excellent vintages (such as 2000) the wine can live much longer and can be enjoyed until the next harvest rolls around. According to Georges Duboeuf’s notes this is shaping up to be a pretty good vintage.

Beaujolais Nouveau owes its easy drinkability to a winemaking process called carbonic maceration, also known as whole-berry fermentation. This technique preserves the fresh, fruity quality of the grapes without extracting bitter tannins from the grape skins. These flavors also make this wine very food friendly and with a little chill on it, oh so quaffable. This may not be a wine for the wine snobs, but Beaujolais Nouveau is always FUN!

"..... This is a serious wine....."
"Where can you find affordable Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from the highly acclaimed 2012 vintage? Here at Pop’s!

While most Cabernets are still young from 2014 and 2015, this Laely is still from 2012. This extra age has allowed this wine to mature beautifully. Laely sources their grapes from some of the best districts such as Howell Mountain, Rutherford, Atlas Peak and Oakville. The wine is 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petite Verdot. This is a serious wine without expressing one dimensional, over-the-top oak notes, but rather a balanced profile at release with an age worthy, yet approachable tannin structure. The classic flavors of Cassis and dark fruits are present. The palate is very supple and ripe. The finish is long and lingering. The wine was made to enjoy in its youth with the restrain on the oak profile, but also should age very well."

“I like the mineral and dried lemon character.....
..... of this wine. Some spiced apple, too. Medium to full body and fresh acidity. Nice fruit. Drink now.”

"..... this tastes much more expensive than it is....."
"When I first tasted this wine, I said to myself that this tastes much more expensive than it is. Made from 60% Merlot, 40% Corvina Gran Passione Rosso is made by drying the grapes (appassimento) before fermentation, the same way Amarone is produced. We affectionately refer to this wine as a baby Amarone. This wine is similarly intense and full-bodied, displaying rich red & black fruits on a weighty, solid frame with soft tannins."

“Expressive aromas of cherry, leather and tobacco start things off, while a mineral element chimes in on the palate. Elegant, firm and balanced, with a pure cherry note lingering on the finish. Best from 2018 through 2028.” ($19)

"..... Absolutely delectable!!!....."
"Ahhh Yalumba it sounds like a song............. It's not a song though (that's just me being a bit corny) .

No Yalumba is an absolutely gorgeous winery in Angaston, South Australia that I had the pleasure of visiting. It's an absolutely beautiful vineyard fully family run with a phenomenal history that dates back to World War One. They have so many beautiful wines, I fell in love though with the Viognier, on the nose you get apricot, wild flowers, and some lychee, I could inhale this for days. On the palette you've got more apricot, citrus fruit, lychee and it rounds out with a toasty creamy finish. Absolutely delectable!!!

Another little tid bit about this wine is it's fully organic, and Vegan friendly.......in other words it's unfined and unfiltered, no animal products involved. I am so excited that we carry this one now in the store! Please try this one! Take a sip of goodness and a sip of history!"
