"This aromatic white will make for a delicious summer quaffing wine. The nose
offers floral notes of rose petal and honeysuckle, with hints of jasmine and
spice. On the palate aromas of grapefruit and lime dominate, and the finish
is quite persistent. There is sufficient acidity to stand up to food, such
as light appetizers or tapas." ($15)

The Nodding Head Test.....
..... when our staff tastes a wine and you look around the room
and everyone's smiling with their heads nodding.... yep, another winner!
“Tuesday night was our weekly staff training seminar and once again the
line-up was filled with great wines and great values. I have to tell you
that sometimes it is difficult to pick the winner of the night out of some
of these great portfolio’s we taste.
It is exciting that there is so much great wine under twenty dollars these
days. However this is even better, it is under ten bucks when bought by the
case, which I highly suggest. I have to say Morro Bay has been around for
quite sometime, sales have been brisk, but I’ve never tried it. This is
really good!
My first impression was finesse, which I attribute to the vintage of 2006
and some bottle age, most Cabernet Sauvignon’s in this price range are
currently on the 2008. Yet there is a great backbone to this wine, with the
traditional currant and dark fruits. Making this a “want to drink now, but
don’t have to wine.”

“Is there a better under $20 Chardonnay made in America than
Souverain’s? Year after year, it excels, offering rich fruit flavor, toasty
oak, and excellent balance. Unabashedly Californian, it does not aim for
delicacy or nuance, but instead upfront sensual pleasure. This recently
released 2008 simply continues what has become a delicious tradition.”

Should be safe by saying this..."Dom Perignon Rose
for $19 dollars"!
"So earlier this week, we once again attended our customary
wine seminar, and this time around, what a striking tasting it was! Great
company, great atmosphere, and of course, great diversity of wines- I yearn
that they all could be this first-class! But when it comes to wines of the
world, we've learned that you take the good quality with the dire, and
continue on tasting. This weeks line up- Pasternak Wine Imports
Pasternak Wine Imports is a national importer of wines (France, Spain,
Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Argentina, Chile & California), so knowingly;
we knew that we were in for a special night. Even their motto is similar to
ours; "Pasternak strives to be a full-serviced, addressing all segments of
the wine industry with a high-quality portfolio that is geographically
selected, brand oriented, comprised of wines of integrity and long-term
vision"....and after tasting, Pop's has agreed that they do indeed have a
special portfolio. In particular, the wines of Lucien Albrecht, and his
Cremant d' Alsace Brut Rose which has outclassed the highest priced
Champagnes I've ever tasted!!
Made in the same style and fashion of DP Rose (using the traditional
Champagne method) Crémant is the French word for "creaming." A more
idiomatic translation would be "creamy." In France, if you make a sparkling
wine in the province of Champagne, you call your sparkling wine Champagne.
But if you make a sparkling wine in Alsace, you call your sparkling wine,
respectively, Crémant D' Alsace.
The Lucien Cremant Rose is made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes and has a
peachy-pink, copper color, a huge mousse, and tiny, sporty bubbles. Summer
peaches and glorious flavors follow the fruit-forward nose. The finish is
dry, with granny apple notes. The color alone could stop you in your
tracks...and while the wine was excellent that night, I feel it will be
excellent for you too. Taste wise, and most importantly, budget wise."

".....a veritable smorgasbord of flavors....."
"In the glass: Apothic red wine is a deep, burly sort of crimson to
inky-blackish red with a completely opaque center going out into a deeply
painted blood-ruby rim definition and seriously high viscosity.
On the nose: The wine immediately reveals layers of ripe, opulent black
fruit with dominance by black currants and boysenberries, then eucalyptus,
oak, creme de cassis, creme brulee, vanilla, cherry jam and blackberry
sorbet. It is a fabulous and complex nose for a California wine, with tons
of class coming out.
On the palate: It is a veritable smorgasbord of flavors, highlighted by
black cherry fruit, minerals, mint, earthy — almost chewy — notes of
blackberries, a firmly structured set of tannins and solid backbone for
decent aging ability. The midpalate is powerful with black fruit and
minerals, going into the long and tasty finish that is laden with forest
berries, licorice root, fern and elder fruit. It is a superb winemaking
effort and a blend that defies the pricing category it is in.
Odds and ends: Apothic red is a beautifully packaged bottle of wine. The
reason I mention this, is because it looks pricey from the outside and it
tastes fabulously expensive inside. This well-crafted wine was inspired by
the “Apotheca,” a mysterious place where wine was blended and stored in 13th
century Europe. While that has absolutely nothing to do with where this wine
comes from, it still sounds pretty cool. In any case, one must exercise
caution when coming upon such great looking bottles, because they tend to be
all packaging and nothing behind the label. This highly recommended Apothic
wine, however, really delivers on many levels and can be said to be a highly
successful blending experiment. It should drink well through 2013, and can
be enjoyed with a nicely grilled medium-rare sirloin steak and some roasted
potatoes."
