This
is great rose.... One of our best sellers!
“It's been either muggy and sticky hot, or now just plain hot,
and a girl gets thirsty. Come early evening, I'm ready for an apéritif, and
this Spanish rosé has become a favorite. Dry and crisp, the Muga rosado
carries a scent of wild strawberries and tastes a bit like that too.
Graceful and nuanced, this rosé is still gutsy enough to pair with bold
flavors.
I've enjoyed it with gazpacho, shrimp in achiote sauce and grilled quail.
It's great with guacamole and corn or tortilla soup too. Just what you want
in a basic summer wine: versatility.

".....it
drinks like $25.... at $12+ by the case, it is an outstanding value....."
"This week I got the opportunity to try thru 20 different Spanish red values
- the majority were under $20 a bottle and several under $10. There were a
lot of great wines poured...
Besides the 2008 Luzon, from Bodegas Luzon in Jumilia of which the whole
table agreed was by far the best VALUE wine of the night (Juicy, modern,
bright and very smooth) and will be in the weekly email at a ridiculously
low price... and that you should buy cases of...
The wine that caught my attention, mainly because I've had it for 4 straight
vintages and it has consistently been at the top of it's game every year...
was the "Altos de Luzon 2006!"
Maybe it's because it's a 2006 whereas everything else is 2008 or 2009 and
it's had time to settle down...
The 2006 Altos de Luzon is a modern made, glass-staining wine that oozes
dark blackberry, vanilla and spices - put simply - it has body, depth, sex
appeal and it drinks like $25.... at $12+ by the case, it is an outstanding value.
The Altos de Luzon 2006 has incredible aromatics, great mouthfeel and
deserves to be on everyone's dinner table."

How
about a $33+ bottle for $13.50?
"Our 2006 Sterling Vineyard Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
displays deep ruby color and rich, expressive aromas of spicy black cherry
and briary blackberry, with subtle hints of cedar and mocha. The mouth
filling flavors of ripe black and red fruits, laced with clove and allspice,
persist through the lengthy finish. Silky, ripe tannins structure the wine
and contribute to the plush texture on the palate. Toasty oak, from 14
months of barrel aging, add warm tones to the aromas and flavors.
This Cabernet Sauvignon’s smooth, inviting flavors taste delicious with
grilled lamb chops, with rosemary and garlic mashed potatoes or steak with a
green peppercorn sauce. You’ll find roast duck with a black cherry sauce,
lightly spiced with clove, magically repeats the wine’s flavors. Use your
imagination; if you like the pairing, it works.”

".....which
is simply singing right now. It was glorious....."
"The vineyard is bordered by an insane asylum and a power plant and the
Pacific Ocean.
Nick deLuca uses 120L demi muids to literally mirror Burgundy in his elevage.
Tonight, I had a bottle of the 2007 which is simply singing right now.
It was glorious and continues to be Californian Meursault for me. Popcorn.
Ripping minerals. Lemon butter vapor. Totally integrated oak and acidity.
Folks, Californian Chardonnay value doesn't get to taste better than this.
Make sure to grab some of this."

"Bright
inky color, gorgeous aroma's and bone dry deliciousness!"
"Ah.... What a great feeling it is when the 95% Humidity days
come to an end for awhile... The earlier part of this week was delightful.
Still in the high 80's, but MUCH more tolerable.
And all this adds up to? Red Wine sampling can begin again...
How about a delicious, bone-dry Dolcetto I fell in love with - the wonderful
2009 Dolcetto D'Alba from G. B. Burlotto.
Dolcetto's when young are so fragrant and irresistible with their bright
cherry liveliness. Dolcetto is grown up North in Italy's Piedmont region.
Dolcetto is the grape. D'Alba means "From Alba" meaning that it's Dolcetto
grown entirely in the village of Alba. If you've seen wines with D'Asti...
it's the same situation, grapes exclusively from the village of Asti.
In Italy, where meals are an average of 5 courses and a different type of
wine is served with each course, Dolcetto is usually the wine served with
the first course followed by Barbera, Nebbiolo d'Alba, Barolo or Barbaresco.
Dolcetto is a great introductory wine to get the tastebuds energized.
This 2009 G. B. Burlotto stands out for that liveliness, bright inky color,
gorgeous aroma's and bone dry deliciousness! Considerable depth, and nice
fruit laced with alcohol. On the palate it's rich, with clean lively berry
fruit supported by deft acidity and by tannins that have a slightly bitter
burr and flow into a clean bright bitter berry fruit finish.
Dolcetto's are at their very best when they are young... Even though Pop's
has a few 2007's and 2008's in stock, I'd strongly suggest grabbing this
2009 now... they aren't built to age and are best very Young.
For serving, I'd suggest a slight chill as the bright fruit really shows
well with a slight chill. Not cold like white wines, but 10 minutes in the
fridge before dinner should be fine.
And at $13+ by the case, it's an excellent value that will be on my drinking
rack for the next few months.

"Whenever we offer crazy deals like this, people ask, "Is the
wine any good?" The answer is always the same..... "We don't sell bad wine.
SO, let me be candid with you...... There's no way the wine's worth $19+. At
$10 it would be decent value..... at $3+ it screams!"
