Sonoma
Count Cabernet..... $8+, when bought by the case!
"This Cabernet been a long favorite of the Pop's fine wine
staff. The pedigree is great, produce from some of the finest vineyards in
Sonoma County. The vintage 2007 is one of the best in recent California
history. The price is outstanding at 8+ when bought by the case. Do you need
any more persuading?
This Cabernet is rich and concentrated with layers of juicy plum, black
currant and coffee nuances. A gorgeous, medium-bodied wine that finishes
with polished tannins allowing the ripe fruit flavors to show through. Big
enough to have with a steak, but fleshy enough to have with barbecue."

One
of the greatest deals EVER!.....
We tasted this at this week's weekly wine dinner. I, for one, was
astounded. Especially when the price was revealed. Even more incredible was
the International Wine Cellar's 89 point score. Remember these guys rate
very conservatively. I can't remember EVER seeing an 89 point wine costing
less than $10-$15. I can't impress upon you how extraordinary a value this
is at $6+, when bought by the case....... and Yes it passed the Nodding Head
Test!
"Opaque ruby. Blackberry, cracked pepper and anise on the nose, with a
suave floral overtone. Vibrant dark berry flavors are nicely framed by silky
tannins and given depth by a note of bitter chocolate. A note of violet
lingers on the juicy, gently sweet finish. Hard to imagine getting more
complexity for the money."

Ted
tastes a Pinot Grigio and says "WOW"
..... It got my attention!
"I have to admit - Pinot Grigio is often disappointing.
The vast majority of Pinot Grigio's are so over-produced that they have no
character. They can taste like someone's making a lot of money and no one is
tending to the vines in the vineyards, making sure that the grapes produce
something worth putting their names on...
That's why when someone recommended I try this 2009 Vaccaro Pinot Grigio
from of all places, Sicily... I was skeptical. I would've thought that
Sicily was too far South for a white to have acidity to balance out the ripe
fruit.
I was wrong.
The Vaccaro indeed has plenty of acidity and dense fruit that balances out
perfectly.
Wow is all I can say. WOW!
A Gorgeous nose of Rocky Citrus followed by a medium bodied minerality,
likely due to the Volcanic soils that dominate Sicily... the Vacarro has
body, it has flavor with a long finish and it has CHARACTER.... AND if you
re-cork and try it the next day, it is still delicious. Reminds me more of
an inexpensive Gruner with lots of character.
And at $7+ (by the case) - it's dirt cheap. Can you say WIN, WIN, WIN!
Truly delicious Pinot Grigio with real character... Be sure not to let this
one pass you by."

The
ELEGANCE of PINOT NOIR PERFECTION.....
..... 95 points too!!
"....so earlier this week, a very first-rate acquaintance, and avid
wine-buyer of Pop's, brought back luscious memories by sending me a simple
email. You see, almost 3 years ago to the date, he and I together celebrated
his arrival to Long Island by visiting and tasting under the bright lights
of NYC; the BEST of the BEST you could say, as we sampled some of the
greatest Californian Pinot's in the biz....and while today, most of you may
recognize some of those great labels we sampled, (Seasmoke, Hitching Post,
Lucia, Pisoni, Saintsbury) only one, and ONLY ONE stood out; FORT ROSS
Nestled on a sunny coastal ridge, overlooking the Pacific Ocean a mile
below, their "True Sonoma Coast" vineyard is one of the closest, if not the
closest, to the ocean in all of California. From the vineyard you can see
the breaking surf and the misty silhouettes of Bodega Head and Pt. Reyes far
below. The vineyards high elevation above the coastal fog and its proximity
to the ocean provide a gentle, sunny and temperate climate that has proved
to be extremely favorable for the slow and even ripening of ultra-premium
Pinot Noir grapes.
That night, we shared the 2005 Fort Ross Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast........ and
even today, we reminisce about that tasting and the time had, but also, how
wine-ly the 2005 Fort Ross kicked the s___ OUT OF ALL THE OTHER PINOT'S,
especially the ones that cost 3 times more like Seasmoke and Pisoni!!
From that tasting, I share that we each bought a case.
Today, the 2007 has been released, and within my inbox was his email.....
"A 2007 Pinot Noir.... $27+ bucks by the case.... rated 95 points....
and from Fort Ross..... , a winery in which we are so familiar makes this
purchase a NO-BRAINER...."
With the 2007 being a GREAT Pinot Noir year, and the wine itself scoring
sipping notes of 95pts, Pop's took action and recently purchased all the
cases that were available to the market of New York....
ARE YOU A FAN OF AWESOME PINOT NOIR??
THEN BUY SOME!!"
Michael Crafa, Certified Sommelier, Pop's Wines & Spirits, July, 2010
"A beautiful Pinot Noir for drinking now with lamb chops or maybe a rich,
exotic Ahi tune tartare. Brilliantly crisp in acidity, with a clean, bracing
mouthfeel, it offers dazzlingly rich flavors of raspberries, cherries,
orange zest, Dr Pepper cola and Asian spices with a smoky oak adding
elaborate tiers of vanilla char. For the price,
it's a very great buy."

Long
Island has arrived.....
..... 90 points too!!
"Over the last several years I have had the joyful task of
researching the wines of the Long Island Viticultural Areas. Last year we
shared our impression that Paumanok Vineyards, family owned and operated
since 1983, had emerged as one of the premier wine producers on the North
Fork. The Paumanok wines have received accolades from renowned critic Robert
Parker and Long Island specialist, Howard Goldberg. We are delighted to
report that Wine Spectator has awarded the Paumanok ’07 Cabernet Franc a 90
point rating. Paumanok wines are served at more than 40 fine restaurants on
Long Island and 50 in New York City. But you don’t have to pay for an
expensive restaurant meal to experience these fine wines. Drop by Pop’s or
give us a call…for the dinner part, you’re on your own."

“This solid red delivers ripe flavors of black cherry and plum, with
accents of tobacco, herb and smoke. This isn’t heavy, but has good density,
and the finish is fresh and floral. Drink now through 2014.”

"The estate’s 2008 Aglianico is a gem of a wine. Wild
cherries, dark raspberries, spices, leather and licorice come together
beautifully in this medium-bodied red. Floral notes waft out from the glass
on the finish. There is nothing fussy here, just a flat out delicious bottle
of unoaked Aglianico readers are sure to enjoy. Even better, this is a
terrific value. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2014." ($18)
