They
say $9 (Wine Enthusiast), we say $7+, when bought by the case!
This has been our best selling sparkler for many years in a row.
"Cristalino is always a solid go-to Cava. This brut is round, slightly
yeasty and shows citrus aromas that veer toward lemon-lime. The palate is
healthy and clean, with a narrow set of citrus and apple flavors. Fairly
full and long on the finish, which makes the whole package more than
worthwhile given the cost." ($9)

We just bought a ton of this. .....and yes, we got it at quite a
price. We were looking arount the internet, and we found lots of places
charging between $75 and $130 per bottle. Superlative pricing and look at
the following review..... Think Xmas Gifts!! ..... it doesn't get much
better!
"The early aroma is a combination of malt, wood and sea breeze; the later
bouquet is a deliciously harmonious, even creamy marriage of maritime
atmosphere and malted barley. Palate entry is chock full of biscuity, peaty,
tobacco leaf tastes; the midpalate stage is sweet. Concludes strong, firm,
slightly hot, pungent and briny. The best-kept secret of Scotland's Western
Highlands. Best Buy."

For years Cloudy Bay was allocated and we had to struggle to keep it in
inventory. Now, 92 points and yes we have the goods! Read this review.....
"This firm, luscious sauvignon is impressively concentrated for the 2008
vintage. It's saturated with gooseberry and lemongrass flavors, and plenty
of acidity. Give it several years in bottle to mellow, or serve it now with
freshly shucked oysters."

".....a
superb value....."
..... and more important, note who wrote it. Stephen Tanzer's
International Wine Cellar is the most conservative reviewer out there. A 90
point review from Tanzer is quite outstanding.... He calls it "a superb
value" Read this review.....
"Inky ruby. Exotically perfumed bouquet displays black raspberry, cherry
compote, licorice and dark chocolate, plus a sexy floral overtone. Fresh,
focused red and dark berry flavors are given depth by a note of bitter
chocolate and framed by silky tannins. Finishes with very good clarity and
mineral snap, with the black raspberry note repeating. Year in and out this
is a superb value. made from vines reportedly ranging from 60 to 100 years
of age."

Wine
of the Week Chianti..... $7+ when bought by the case!!
"In the glass: Gabbiano Chianti is a very firm ruby-red color
with a semi-opaque crimson core, going out into a bright red to pink rim
definition and medium-high viscosity.
On the nose: There is immediate classic red and black fruit with crushed red
cherries, red currant trifle and cranberry crush, then some interesting star
anise, dry flint and mineral undertones with a touch of herbs.
On the palate: The wine is clearly medium-bodied, which is perfect for the
hot summer months, but shows character on the palate with fresh-tasting red
berry fruit -- predominantly strawberry and red cherry -- then wet stone and
slight hints of acidity and wood in the background. The wine is easy on the
midpalate and goes through to a nicely balanced finish that seems rather
uncomplicated by most chianti standards. It is not a complex wine, but it is
excellent for drinking right away and with food.
Odds and ends: As it goes with most great Tuscan wine estates, Castello di
Gabbiano was built in the early 12th century and has been producing wine for
almost that long. While not able to claim great uninterrupted lineage in
winemaking like their peers, the Antinori or the Frescobaldi families, they
are today producing delicious and drinkable chianti and classico riserva
wines from the best lands in this prestigious winegrowing region. This is
not the chianti that one used to find in a straw bottle, but a much more
modern version of it, much less rustic and easy to drink. It's also a good
buy. Try it as they would in Tuscany with some pasta e fagioli, and drink it
now through 2013.

"Ripe and intense, this Santorini requires patience. Searing acidity
drives the juicy pear flavor hard into the tongue, but with air, it turns
toward chalky minerality, with breadth and richness to balance the acidity.
Pair it with a thick halibut steak, or put it away for five to 10 years; it
has the stuffing to age well." ($20)
