".....I
didn't think you could get a quality Cabernet for under $15.00 anymore....."
"I attended a recent wine & food charity event to benefit the
Long Island Crisis center. There was plenty of great food provided by a
local favorite restaurant Lola’s and plenty of excellent wines poured by
some of our finest suppliers.
One of the standouts was the 2010 Wyatt Cabernet Sauvignon. A good customer
of Pop's was quoted as saying "I didn't think you could get a quality
Cabernet for under $15.00 anymore". Then I proceeded to tell him it is
actually under $10.00 when bought by the case.
Wyatt is a Polaner Selections custom label that was born from the idea that
delicious, mouth-filling wines can be hand-crafted at reasonable prices.
Working with several top winemakers in California they’ve succeeded in
producing a wine of great value and lots of character for the money.
The result: The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon is a plump, juicy wine with silky
tannins. It is a gorgeous wine and flat-out delicious."

“The limited production 2009 Haut-Brisson Reserve ratchets up everything,
from the color (inky purple) to the aromatics, flavor profile, and long,
full-bodied finish. This is a brilliant St.-Emilion that tastes like it came
from one of the great terroirs on the St. Emilion plateau. It is also
structured and unevolved, and will benefit from 5-7 years of cellaring.
Anticipated maturity: 2017-2030.”

"Another lovely Julia’s Pinot from Cambria, at a fair price.
With its light tannins and transparency, it’s definitely Pinot Noir, and the
acidity testifies to a cool climate. You might even pick out the Santa Maria
Valley from the crushed Indian spices. Subtle but intriguing cherry, cola
and plum flavors round out the picture. Drink now–2015."

".....Go
ahead... for $17+ Spoil yourself!....."
"Sancerre is one of the most famous white wines in France. As
the weather warms, we desire crisp, lively whites and Sancerres are magical.
This classic wine is 100% Sauvignon Blanc. The area of Sancerre - on the
eastern end of the Loire Valley - makes sauvignon blanc wines that reflect
the place more than the grape.
The problem over the past 5 years?? Prices of these wines have soared. Some
of them Increased into the $30+ range. It's hard to open the wallet that
wide for a white wine from France... no matter how crispy and vibrant.
The Good News - Values do exist! I found a GREAT Sancerre that you can buy
for less than $20... that delivers a lot of value. The 2010 Pierre Deschamps
has that hallmark Flinty'ness that only a true Sancerre can deliver. Crisp,
Lively, Intensely Refreshing... nothing better when it warms up than to
crack open a great value Sancerre. Go ahead... for $17+ Spoil yourself!"

"The 2010 Thomas Hyland Shiraz displays a deep garnet-purple color
and aromas of ripe blackberry and cherry preserves plus hints of bacon,
pepper, tree bark and cedar. Concentrated and taut on the medium-bodied
palate, it has crisp acidity and a medium level of grainy tannins, finishing
long. Drink it now to 2019." ($15)

"This is a splendid rendition of Chateau Ste. Michelle’s mainstay
Cabernet, rich and round, with a sophisticated mix of grapes, including
Malbec, Cab Franc, Petit Verdot and Syrah. Dark fruit flavors of black
cherry and cassis create a lush center, and the wine is more evolved and
smoother, with less obvious oak and barrel flavor, than the pricier Cabs
from Ste. Michelle."
