"A ripe, juicy, flattering style, with pear, apple and fig fruit
framed by nicely integrated piecrust and brioche notes. The long finish lets
a hazelnut hint chime in. Drink now. From Chile." ($24)
Wine Spectator's editors have selected this wine as the best buy of the
week.

".....It is a very great example of its genre, one
of the best in memory....."
"This is a blend of 92% Sauvignon Blanc and 8% Sémillon. It
was partially barrel-fermented and then aged on the lees. It is a very great
example of its genre, one of the best in memory. Shows intricate layers of
Meyer lemons, kefir limes and white peaches, offset by crisp acidity and
minerals but softened with buttercream and buttered toast. A vibrant,
immaculate wine, one of the Sauvignon Blanc stars of the vintage."

".....The Show is about to end....."
"The 2005 Cotes de Chambeau is a Remarkable Value exhibiting Inky Black
Color, a Super Rich Bouquet of Graphite and Dark Berries, and a wonderfully
smooth mouthfeel with a long finish that goes and goes. Give it an hour in a
decanter and it grows more and more intense. Another great value $13+ (by
the case) 2005 Red Bordeaux.
"The Show is about to end" - The show in this case, is the offering of
no-name 2005 Bordeaux in the $10-15 price-point. All of them offered
Exceptional Value for the everyday wine consumer, often tasting at least
twice their price. That show is coming to a close. 2006, 2007, 2008 will
yield good values and we will always alert you of the "True values," but
nothing will be on the same level as these 2005's. Don't let the show end
for you - Stock up NOW!"

"The 2006 Produttori del Barbaresco is a gorgeous, generous
Barbaresco loaded with ripe dark fruit. This is an especially harmonious,
refined Barbaresco from the Produttori that is also somewhat unusual for its
dark, brooding personality. Licorice, leather and tar linger on the powerful
finish. Today the wine is remarkable for its depth and concentration, while
the aromatic complexity will develop in bottle. If the regular Barbaresco
holds this much power, I can only wonder what the Riservas might have in
store. Simply put, this is a marvelous effort."

"The debate rages everywhere in the wine world – who are the great producers
of Barbaresco? The answers of course, often depend on the individual as
greatness for one person is defined differently than it is for someone else.
For me, and perhaps many of you, the answer is Produttori del Barbaresco......What
truly makes the Produttori del Barbaresco such an important producer is that
it serves as a reference point for Barbaresco. Even if you prefer a riper,
flashier, oakier approach when it comes to this wine, one has to look at the
wines of the Produttori as bottlings that define the classic style of
Barbaresco. After that, we can compare the products from other producers in
the area, & recall why we here at Pop's yearly support the label of
Produttori Del Barbaresco...."
Let's compare Barolo to Barbaresco..
Barolo: Barolo is one of the world's most stern, tannic, austere yet
full-flavored wines from Piedmonte. Massive, yet intensely fragrant, and of
course, VERY costly.
Barbaresco: Often better balanced as well as lighter than Barolo (less
tannin, more fruit), with the same aromas and flavors, Barbaresco frequently
has more intense jammy fruit, and sometimes more cedar and chocolate; it can
be sublime. Especially in good years!! Barbaresco is a GREAT alternative to
Barolo, with Price & Drink-ability being the most important factors....
Most lovers of great Italian wine were introduced to Piedmont by drinking
Barolo and, for many, we've seen this legendary red sky-rocket in price,
while the 2006 Produttori Barbaresco represents the soul of the zone @ $ 27
and change by the case!"

"An absolute whopper of a Vacqueyras is the 2007 Vacqueyras Vieilles
Vignes, which comes from their oldest vines and is a blend of 70% Grenache
and 30% Syrah. Licorice, charcoal, blackberry and cassis notes, along with
hints of lavender and pepper, jump from the glass of this
inky/purple-colored wine. Layered and multi-dimensional, with superb purity,
fleshy, concentrated fruit, and perfect balance, this wine has an uncanny
ability to be substantial in size but remains surprisingly elegant, with
admirable purity. This is a super Vacqueyras to drink over the next 7-8
years.
This is a sensational estate in Vacqueyras owned by Guy Ricard, whose wines
have given me enormous pleasure for nearly two decades. The estate owns 40
acres of vineyard and makes two cuvees, both noteworthy." ($32)

"Parcels of old vines produce this complex wine. It has dark
blackberry fruits while still retaining freshness over the bone dry tannins.
There is depth to the structure, pushing the wine but not going over the
top. Age for 2-3 years."
