"Wine
friends were amazed how much I shelled out for this bottle!"
"THE NEXT LANGUEDOC SENSATION IS HERE; A KNOCKOUT VALUE from
Southern France, vintage year 2010 (excellent vintage) that STUNNED THE WINE
CROWD (GEEKS) & IS READY TO BE SHIPPED!
"A distinctive blend crafted by wine-maker Jeff Carrel, Puydeval is based
on Cabernet Franc, which thrives in the cooler microclimates of the
generally hot Languedoc region of Southern France. This iconic, eponymous
and admittedly unusual wine has quickly gained a fervent following for its
originality and for delivering outstanding value."58% Cabernet Franc,
28% Syrah & 10% Merlot."
Hand Picked Selections
"Monday through Friday, Puydeval has become my red of choice after
tasting this past weekend, and even special enough to open for the Saturday
night wine crowd, wine geeks etc........Once again this area (Languedoc)
offers outstanding value from the outstanding vintage (2010) which only
continues to amaze me. Now Brunello is Brunello, and so far we have
had our fun together these past weeks, but the 2010 Puydeval is something
inexpensive & drinking perfectly. Special enough to tell you ALL about and
something you & others will truly enjoy.
This is archetypal Cabernet Franc in character, implausibly rich, and
ludicrously under-priced!! This brilliant Puydeval red is a modern, almost
New World-style meets Old World wine technique by blending 58% Cabernet
Franc, 28% Syrah & 10% Merlot; it is silky smooth, full-bodied and offers
wonderful notes of generously juicy dark cherry tinged with
spiciness...alcohol low these says, 14%....stun your company now and in the
future as the 2010 Puydeval deserves the attention to be placed within
tastings or even a blind tasting. The crowd will be amazed how much you
paid!
If you love Bordeaux....GRAB THIS! If you love New World Cabernet...DON'T
MISS THIS! And the wine Critics / Public Agree...just Google it!

“A prodigious effort, the 2009 Lirac Clos de Sixte blows away the
2008. This dense purple-colored wine offers up notes of black truffles,
charcoal, blackberries, kirsch, garrigue, new saddle leather, herbs de
Provence, spice box, and smoke. It possesses great fruit, full-bodied power,
excellent depth, and abundant silky tannins. Drink it over the next 6-8
years.
Grand Veneur is one of the most brilliant estates in Chateauneuf du Pape as
well as the force behind the negociant wines sold under the Alain Jaume
label. Virtually everything they produce has merit. Some of this estate’s
2009 red wines are just hitting the market as they are bottled early to
preserve their fruit and freshness. I can’t say enough about the job Alain
Jaume’s two sons, Sebastian and Christophe, have done with this estate. The
impeccable attention to detail in the vineyards, the meticulous vinification,
and the careful bottling benefit every consumer.” ($27)

“Very deep garnet-purple colored, the 2010 The Boxer Shiraz has notes
of warm blackberries and blueberries with nuances of menthol, some spice
cake, anise and bacon fat. Concentrated, big, rich and ripe, it offers a
very spicy palate with some licorice and cumin seed coming through,
supported by a medium level of velvety tannins, lively acidity and finishing
very long. Drink it now to 2017+.”

“You might think that Cloudy Bay would rest on its laurels given their
tremendous reputation at producing exemplary Sauvignon Blanc. But they
haven’t. They’ve actually increased the quality of their all ready terrific
Sauvignon Blanc as the vines age and they gain even more experience with
their vineyards. The 2011 has great depth and length that complements the
energy and verve of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. It remains a benchmark for
the varietal in New Zealand.” ($31)

"The Italian Wine Masters trade tasting in NYC is our opportunity to
experience the best of what’s available now and to come from the famed
Tuscany region of Italy. Last week, we were able to taste through some
extraordinary Brunello and Chianti Classico offerings, but it was the Vino
Nobile di Montepulciano that garnered my attention. It’s elegant and
affordable…what a combination! The lesser known of the great wines of
Tuscany, and often confused with the Montepulciano grape from Abruzzo, the
region to its east; the Vino Nobile hails from the Montepulciano area of
Tuscany and is a clone of the famed Sangiovese grape that is the heart of
Tuscan wines. With modest alcohol of 13.5%, soft tannins and less acidic
than Sangiovese can be, it’s a natural paired with a variety of meats,
poultry, and of course pasta. With this wine at hand and a wedge of cheese,
perhaps Parmagiano or Asiago, you are sure to impress your family and
friends as an “Italian Wine Master”.

".....I
would easily put a $35 dollar price tag behind this Beauty!....."
"This past week, I shopped the walls of Pop's searching out a
mix-case like many of us seem to do.....grabbing wines to fill the "drink me
now" rack that I felt would appeal to me and others in relation to area of
production, vintage, and most importantly, uniqueness. Some Riesling from
Finger Lakes, N.Y. (an area known for some of the best valued-Riesling in
the world).....South American Reds... (preferably Carmenere from Chile)
which in my mind makes some of the most outstanding dollar for dollar valued
reds out there...and when you think of the grape of Carmenere, think Merlot
brilliance intermixed with the authority Cabernet Sauvignon. Just like
Bordeaux, but not as quite. Mainly cause the Bordeaux vintage of 2009 upon
us! And it's going to be a great time for excellent wines!
You see, when you have a vintage like 2009 within Bordeaux, you should feel
special people... (Get ready cause here we go. Not since the 1982s have I
read so much early excitement for a vintage as I am seeing for the
2009s)...Many wine lovers and admirers go through spans of life when they
never get to taste a vintage as special as 2009....simply stating "This is
your time!"...cause you will never see a year like this when such young
wines are drinking so fantastically well...
Robert Parker Jr., Wine Advocate..."2009 vintage and says that "it may turn
out to be the finest vintage I have tasted in "32 years of covering
Bordeaux.” My thought that this is a good vintage that has made some
outstanding wines.
Christian Moueix of Chateau Petrus..."I have never seen anything like it in
my career,' said Christian Moueix, whose family owns or manages some of the
most prestigious estates in Bordeaux's Right Bank, including Pétrus, La
Fleur-Pétrus, and Trotanoy.
The appellations "Bordeaux" and "Bordeaux Superieur" can taste a lot better
than they sound, especially from the near-perfect 2009 vintage that produced
terrific wines from Bordeaux's bottom to top. The 2009 Macard is soft and so
well-balanced, with just a hint of oak but not too much. It tasted of black
fruit and cherries, with a hint of green pepper coming from the nose to keep
things interesting. That is the Cabernet Franc talking along with 30% Merlot
and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon which should sell for $30.00 and could be $75.00
on a any wine-list!
90 points and a 'Smart Buys' designation from Wine Spectator: "Ripe and
dense, but fresh, with silky-textured plum, blackberry and blueberry fruit
carried by sweet spice and maduro tobacco notes. The fleshy finish shows
nice drive. Should open up more with brief cellaring." (12/20/10)
