Great wine doesn't have to cost a lot!

This is the best Domestic Pinot Noir I've tried under $20! "2014 Sostener Santa Lucia Highlands $13+ WOW! The best under $20 Domestic Pinot Noir I’ve ever tried. When do you ever find ANYTHING from Santa Lucia Highlands under $20?

Never…

The 2014 Sostener Pinot Noir is in a LOT OF STORES selling for OVER $20 a bottle. Why? It drinks it!!! This is stunning juice/value!

Two like-minded producers wanted a Value oriented Pinot Noir for Restaurants to pour by the glass.

Home Run!!!

Black cherry and smoked pork mark a very oak-driven nose that's prominent but not overdone. The smoked-fruit aspect carries to the palate, where cola, pomegranate and bramble are quite flavorful and dusted by crushed fennel seed.

The smell tells you this is expensive. The palate confirms it. Day two and it’s still Rocking!!!

Multi-case purchase here while it lasts."

"This wine smells delicious, with aromas of cola, pomegranate and yellow cake with frosting. The excellence carries through to the palate, with shipped cream and cherries, teriyaki and maple-glazed pork There is noticeable grip and lots of zing and energy in the glass."

Poor Man's Chateauneuf-du-Pape
"2015 Laurent Miquel Syrah Grenache is Stunning for $7!!

Finding values is a lot of fun. Tasting a few hundred wines over the past month yields some terrific values if you hunt and hunt and hunt like I do.

Big Turkey day coming… Fall nights are getting cooler…

Here’s a Rhone Red you have to buy CASES of…

2015 Laurent Michel Syrah Grenache from the South of France is a dangerously drinkable concoction.

Deep and dark in color, the 70% Syrah presents itself in a brooding, dense taste with a decent amount of earthy fruit in the background… This blend reveals LIQUORICE and BLACKBERRY aromas associated with SPICY HINTS FROM THE SYRAH!

It drinks just like a Chateauneuf-du-Pape…  FOR $7!!!!!!!!!!!

This is not a typo!

I tasted this at a Portfolio tasting a few weeks back and then saw the price… $!?!?!?!?!

I had to get another bottle… Tasted awesome as well. Tasted a friend – and he ordered a case on the spot…

2015 is an outstanding vintage in the South of France.

Thus, this wine offers a ripe nose of red fruits, with delicious mocha herbs and spices. The palate is mellow with intense berry flavours and characteristic rosemary, thyme and floral notes. A real taste of the garrigue funk that you get on much more expensive wines. The tannins are well-structured and the acidity balanced, with a cocoa-infused finish that lingers nicely.

Everyone agrees, this is a tremendous value for the Chateauneuf and the Cotes du Rhone customer.

Poor Man’s Chateauneuf-du-Pape for $7!!!!!"

91 point, Wine Spectator 2015 San Felice Chianti Classico
"Every now and then I come across a wine which is ridiculously well-priced for the caliber of flavor it delivers. This 2015 San Felice Chianti Classico is one of those wines."

91 Points, Wine Spectator - Smart Buy!
"
Rich and dense, with bright black cherry, earth, tobacco and tar flavors fanning out through the long finish. There's plenty of fruit, but also depth and harmony. Sangiovese, Colorino and Pugnitello. Drink now through 2023. 29,200 cases made. Bruce Sanderson, November 15, 2017

The San Felice vineyards are situated among the gently rolling hills of the Castelnuovo Berardenga area of Chianti Classico. Wine Spectator rated this vintage 91 points--a true wine gem!

Enjoy San Felice Chianti Classico with veal, pasta, osso bucco, and aged cheeses. To bring out the lovely fruit of this San Felice, make it classic chicken cacciatore over polenta. A beef roast with Madeira sauce will accent the floral notes which make this Chianti Classico so remarkably delicious. For the earthy nuances of the wine, we say a simple pasta with tomatoes and black olives.

Either way, this is a very tasty Chianti Classico!"

Exotic dry Austrian White Blend
"Neumeister Gemischter Satz Zingy, Zesty, Crispy and affordable!

I love Dry Austrian whites. More people need to know about these kinds of zesty, crispy dry whites.

Here’s a new kind of wine that I too am just learning about…

“Gemischter Satz”

Gemischter Satz is wine created from a unique Austrian tradition of planting different varieties in a single vineyard, then harvesting and vinifying them together. The grape Varietals: 20% Riesling, 20% Sämling, 15% Goldburger, 15% Mueller Thurgau, 10% Gewurztraminer, 10% Welschriesling, 10% Weißburgunder.

The 2014 Neumeister Gemischter Satz from Austria is a delightful white that I highly recommend.

Again, this is a DRY white wine.

The palate is both zingy and rich - spiked with citrus and rounded with ripe, mellow apple fruit. There is verve and life at its core and tone to its medium body. The dry finish is appetizing. Streaks of blossom, citrus and pear can be discerned. Zesty, bright and pure citrus notes. This wine is fresh, easy and clean. Try with spicy Thai meals or with salads or as an appertif."

Calling all Caymus drinkers
"2014 Triga Red from Alicante Spain: This is really Great stuff I wish you would try.

Explosive aromas of black and blue fruits are transformed into notes of licorice, Indian spices and floral oils. Rich and long, has a good acidity that gives elegance to the powerful complexity. On the palate, sweet blueberries and currants stain the palate with a spicy persistence and final concentration.

This wine is walking out the door with relatively no press/ratings. We did do a tasting in September, but since then, it’s been one of the best selling premium wines the last 3 months.

One of the highlights of visiting Alicante (3 hours South of Barcelona) was visiting the Volver winery and touring their Old Bush Vine Vineyards. The Oldest vines and best selection goes into Triga!

Opening the bottle you see how Purple, almost opaque the color is as is stains your wine glass. A few swirls and it is like a pair of sunglasses."

92 points, Wine Spectator
"This dense red delivers deep flavors of blackberry, currant, dark chocolate and tar, with muscular but well-integrated tannins and enough acidity to stay balanced. A sanguine note adds a twist to the modern style. Drink now through 2024. 500 cases made."

Only 500 cases...   That's small!

I've seen 10 walk out the door the last few months.

Get some before it’s all gone."

90 points, Wine Spectator
"A ripe, rich and powerful red, showing roasted plum, dark cherry and dried plum are set in a firm, powerful structure in this red, with intense minerality."

90 points, Wine Enthusiast
"
This is a structured and dense wine. It has a fine contrast between the ripe red fruits, the mineral tannins and acidity. From the company's vineyards, the wine is balanced and worth aging. Drink from 2017."
