Great wine doesn't have to cost a lot!

It's really rare to find a palatable Barolo under $20!!
"A cooler end of Summer has allowed me to speed up my tasting on Fall Reds. Usually, I wait till October to start pushing Barolo...

Why wait!

Here's a phenomenal value!

2012 Cascina del Torcc Barolo, Piedmont

A great Barolo that is Elsewhere for $29.99 - 39.99... A lot of these stores don't seem to realize there's this new thing called "The Internet" and that prices are easier than ever to compare.

I like this for $18+ by the case!!

I can't state enough, that it's really rare to find something to recommend in a true Barolo for less than $20.

I'll be buying cases of this...

The 2012 Cascina del Torcc Barolo is an unbelievable value!! From a coop in Piedmont that buys grapes and sells bulk wine. Many a wine is usually very forgettable typically... but this is the real deal!

Upon opening, it seems light and simple but with 45 minutes of Air, it's simply delicious! Full bodied, lots of dried roses, a touch of strawberry like the wines from Verduno and a great finish that makes you think it's $39.99...

I LOVE this for $18+ by the case!!

Barolo for $18+!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Spanish Grand Cru Burgundy!
"Well, not really... but you can get the idea where I'm going. A big Hit at our tasting here at Pop's with Victor Ordonez of Jorge Ordonez Fine Estates of Spain Wine Imports.

Godello!

This is simply stunning with Citrus and white-fruit aromas that are elegant, smooth and suggestive of Burgundy! Tasted blind it has the crispness of Sancerre and an exotic creamy texture like a fancy Chablis... The right amount of acidity lends lightness and length to the palate. A fresh friendly minerally and crystal clean finish.

92 points - Wine Advocate
"The 2015 Godello (Green Label) is aged ten months sur lie in French demi-muids and puncheons, seeing no stainless steel. The wine is a completely different style, as the vines for this cuvée are dry-farmed Godello bush vines planted 1904-1910. This is the equivalent of a Premier Cru, possibly a Grand Cru Chablis, with terrific stony minerality (notions of wet pebbles) as well as a touch of tangerine oil, orange blossom and apple skin. Crisp, medium-bodied, beautifully textured and long, this is a stunner and worth the full retail price of $35.00. Drink it over the next several years."

I'd score it a lot higher...

Get this while it lasts..."

The 2015 Ridge Geyserville has arrived.....
..... and with this kind of press, I'd jump on these now...

The Geyserville vineyard represents Ridge Vineyards' finest; these gnarled old vines produced their first vintage in 1966, subsequent years gaining in complexity, harmony and that tell-tale power we fans of this site have come to expect - and adore.

The most prized sub-plot - dubbed "Old Patch" - is where you'll find those renowned 130+ year old vines. Trunks and limbs as thick as trees, these are vines that have witnessed countless moments in American history. These are the vines which bring time and place to the Geyserville bottlings which
simply cannot be replicated by any other producer.

As one of the estate's original parcels, Geyserville launched Ridge Vineyards; a single-vineyard site purchased by the founders of Ridge in 1966 as part of the old Monte Bello Winery.

The founders were great friends of the Trentadue family and that purchase not only gave life to Ridge, but eventually led to Draper's decision to follow the European model of specifying site (rather than grape) on his labels.

Tasted over the weekend, this is a powerful Zin that's drinking but will be better in a year or two. By then it will be long gone.

95 points - Connoisseurs Guide
"Sporting a deep mix of dark fruits that runs from cassis to blackberries along with complexing elements of cocoa and earthy spice, this year's edition of the Ridge Geyserville evokes all the accustomed richness that we have come to expect. It is a well-extracted and eminently ageworthy offering whose tannic, youthfully tight structure warrants a wait, but its astringency is never out of bounds and its insistently fruity finish is the hallmark of a wine guaranteed to repay five or more years of keeping with great dividends."

94 points - Vinous Media
"It's hard to believe that Ridge's iconic Zinfandel Geyserville celebrates its fiftieth anniversary in 2015. Today, the wine is quite deep, powerful and unyielding. Of course, the low yields of the vintage have a lot to do with that. I am not surprised winemaker Eric Baugher decided to give the 2015 a few more months in barrel, as there is a lot of stuffing here. The interplay of fruit, aromatics and acidity is compelling. Red cherry jam, pomegranate, rose petal and woodsmoke infuse the finish. The 2015 is going to need time to be at its best, but it is impressive." (AG) (8/2017)

This beautiful red drinks like a $20+ Cotes du Rhone from France.
"But it's from Spain... A big hit at this weekend's tasting with Victor Ordonez of Jorge Ordonez Fine Estates of Spain.

2014 El Chaparral Old Vine Garnacha, Vega Sindoa, Navarra

Bright red. Suave raspberry and cherry preserve aromas are compelling and sexy with a musky herbal and floral quality that adds complexity to the nose but fade into the red berry aromas, which continue on the palate.

Looks like Parker likes it too...

91 points - Wine Advocate
"The most serious wine, as usually is the case, is their 2014 Vega Sindoa El Chaparral Old Vines Garnacha, coming from head-pruned Grenache vines all planted earlier than 1940. This is 100% Grenache aged in French oak for nine months and then bottled. There is a peppery/licorice almost Pinot Noir delicacy to this wine. It offers up notes of\ cranberry, black cherry and floral hints. The wine has terrific body, good acidity and underlying, earthy minerality. This is very much an Atlantic maritime-influenced Grenache to drink over the next 2-3 years."

Been tasting Burgundy Reds and Whites lately...
"Lots of very expensive wines that just don't make the cut. Value is where it's at!!

An Outrageous Red Burgundy value I found recently...

2015 Bourgogne Rouge, Haut Cotes de Nuits, "Les Dames Huguette" Domaine Guy & Yvan Dufouleur, Nuits St. Georges

The French are very proud and hence their labels have a lot of words that are hard even for me... yes... me... to decipher.

Make no mistake, This is Outstanding Pinot Noir from Burgundy France.

The Dufouleurs have been winemakers in Nuits-St. George for more than 400 years. This is a small family that used to sell their best grapes, but with a younger generation taking over, they decided to producer their own GREAT Pinot Noirs themselves.

I am very happy they do! And you will be very happy too.

Outstanding values!!!

It was only very recently that the current generation decided to EXPORT the family's estate wines. These are very selectively placed in restaurants in the city (Le Bernadin, Daniel, Per Se...) and a few select retailers.

This single-vineyard Pinot Noir is a ripe yet crisp version of the grape with enough lively acidity to balance its rich strawberry/raspberry fruit. Beautiful smells emanate from the glass and the palate is rewarded sevenfold\ while enjoying this delicious pinot noir. Crisp, Lively, Balanced, Earthy... it's all in there.

And VALUE!!!! This has the guts and the glory and is an absolute steal under $30!!! This relatively unknown winery is imported by a very passionate wine importer who believes that Quality comes first and the price must reflect that. A breath of fresh air... Burgundy wines that represent value!!"

An Outrageous Chablis value I found recently...

Premier Cru Taste without the Premier Cru price...

2015 Domaine de la Mandeliere, 1er Cru, Les Fourneaux, Chablis

This is a Premier Cru single-vineyard wine and a classic Chablis: it is fresh and vibrant yet rich, full on the palate, with a bit of salty minerality and a clean finish. Vinification here is on the lees in stainless steel tanks, which produces a house style that is both fresh and vibrant, but also rich on the mid-palate. Piercing minerally flavors that persist without any heaviness.

This has the guts and the glory and is an absolute steal under $30!!!
