Great wine doesn't have to cost a lot!

Back from a trip to Spain, it is abundantly clear: Spain's BEST Wine Values are being discovered by Jorge Ordonez.

Turn over the bottle and look for the importer on the back label of a Spanish wine... the best quality bottles have "Jorge Ordonez Selection" on the back label.

Clean, Full Bodied Wines with intense character, great flavor, and rich full flavored after tastes that more times than not do not give any hangovers. That's the true sign of quality.

For the last 20 years, Jorge’s given American wine lovers a chance to discover all of Spain: Rioja, Albarino, Toro, La Mancha, Malaga, Allicante — Estate managed wines often from Old Bushvines... 1/2 Ton of fruit per acre... Super Small yields... No tricks in the winery... The goal is to produce clean, quality wines at great prices. Win Win!

When Jorge went to Spain 20 years ago, he claimed "The Spanish wine market was more or less Sherry, Torres and a few big guys from Rioja." Rather than accept what he viewed as a sorry situation, Ordoñez started what is now Fine Estates from Spain/Jorge Ordoñez Selections.

Ordoñez subsequently built the most diverse Spanish wine collection in America.

Thanks to the legwork of Jorge Ordoñez, Americans can now buy Spanish wines and be reasonably assured of getting top-notch wines.

"One of the great joys in wine is discovering a drinkable everyday wine that satisfies beyond expectation.

The 2014 Protocolo is stunning for $6!!!

Dark colored, with a rich and inviting aroma, it has an impressive depth and full-flavor. A rare gift.  Lively red berry flavor with a zesty, focused personality. Impressively long, and focused for this price.

Red Wine Value of the year. (so far...)"

Robert Parker´s Wine Advocate. Issue #203.

"The 2015 is singing with cherry red color with violet nuances, it has lots of ripe fruit in the very floral nose. Full bodied wine, spicy and with a complex and long aftertaste."

"Muga Rose is the best selling Spanish Rose in the store!

A complex blend of 60% Garnacha, 30% Viura and 10% Tempranillo, it has a very light, bright colour, reminiscient of pale orange-tinged salmon pink.

As with past vintages, the 2016 is very fresh with bright acidity which dominates the whole sensory profile of the wine. On the nose a complex aroma of white-fleshed fruit with notes of lychees, apricots.

In the mouth it proves deeply attractive since, although the tart fruit is still to the fore, the overall taste is softened by the fine, elegant, well-integrated lees. It is a wine with a long finish which combines sweetness, freshness and acidity."

"If this was California, this would be $50+

Outstanding dark red, opaque, dense color that emanates dark black fruits, a full bodied red for $15!!!"

'The 2014 Volver Single Vineyard comes from a parcel of vines planted in 1957 called Finca Los Juncares. It is 100% Tempranillo aged 15 months in French oak and bottled unfiltered. It is a relatively small cuvée of 3,000 cases, but it’s a stunning wine, with notes of unsmoked cigar tobacco, licorice and blackcurrants. This opaque purple-colored wine has a full-body, showing toasty notes intermixed with blackberry and cassis. It’s a beauty – an internationally styled, modern version of Tempranillo to drink over the next 5-6 years."

"Muga has been setting the standards for World Class Rioja for over 50 years!

The 2012 is a great vintage starting to drink beautifully now. On the nose, it displays ripe, dark fruit, bitter chocolate and as it opens up, hints of spices such as pepper, vanilla and cedar. On the palate, it is Full Bodied and deftly balanced with a soft touch of acidity to give it good potential for cellaring. (My favorite question when visiting a winery? "How does this wine age?" They whipped out a bottle of the 1976... 41 years old and drinking very beautifully... This wine has a winning track record for aging well."

93 Points - James Suckling
"Opened and beautiful nose of pure blackberries and blackcurrants with hints of white truffles and wet slate. Full body and supple and concentrated tannins. So polished and refined. A beauty."

"Vatan Tinta de Toro is made with the Tinta de Toro grape, an ancient clone of Tempranillo that is native to D.O. Toro. It is because of this noble grape that the wines of Toro were famous in the 14th, 15th, and 16th centuries.

The grapes for Vatan come from a 6 Hectare vineyard planted in 1943. The soils are very sandy, intermixed with alluvial gravel. Six to nine feet below the surface, there is a red clay subsoil, which acts as a reservoir of moisture, which is crucial in this arid region.

After fermentation in stainless steel, it is transferred to new French oak barrels where it is aged for 22 months."

93 Points & Highly Recommended - Wine Spectator
"Big, ripe and expressive, this modern-style red delivers bold cassis and cranberry flavors, with dark chocolate, sanguine and cinnamon accents. The firm tannins and orange peel acidity are a bit angular now, but should resolve in time. Best from 2018 through 2028. 500 cases made." – TM (Mar 31, 2017)
